PANELS are a list of infectious disease organisms associates with a region of the horse i.e. Respiratory, Dermal/Skin, GI, Abortion, etc. or are associated with a disease vector such as the tick or the flee. All panels test for a number of infectious organisms associated with those regions or disease vectors. The cost vary from $135 to $225 depending on the panel.
RNA is for viruses that contain RNA as their genome and require an extra step to convert their RNA to DNA before PCR can be undertaken and therefore have a slightly higher handling and reagent cost. The cost is $75.
DNA is for bacteria, fungi, parasites and DNA containing viruses without the need for conversion to DNA. The cost is $70.
